Six Sennheiser headphones win iF Design Award 2010

Audio specialist Sennheiser is being honoured with no less than six awards in this year’s International Forum Design competition. The top-of-the-range HD 800 model and the RS 170 and RS 180 wireless headphones won awards in the ‘Audio/Video’ category. The MM 100 and the DW Office headsets took the coveted prize in the ‘Telecommunications’ category while the PC 31 was awarded in the ‘Computers’ category.

Perfect sound, innovative technology and top-quality design: it was this combination that also impressed the international jury at the iF Product Design Awards 2010. It presented awards to Sennheiser’s HD 800, RS 170, RS 180, MM 100, DW Office and PC 31 products. This year, the jurors for the renowned design competition received a total of 2,468 entries from 39 countries. Of these, 778 award winners were selected in 16 categories.

Sennheiser’s top-of-the-range HD 800 fascinates music-lovers with an impressively spatial sound image that has brilliant treble and precise bass. These outstanding sound properties are accompanied by a puristic design, carefully selected materials and a high-quality finish ‘made in Germany’. The key components of the HD 800 are a completely new transducer and the innovative ear cup design.

The RS 170 and RS 180 headphone models offer high-resolution sound thanks to digital RF transmission. The RS 170 features dynamic bass and a switchable surround sound mode, while the RS 180 has individually adjustable audio properties for a unique sound experience. A minimalist design and high-gloss surfaces in black or anthracite give both headphones an attractively elegant appearance.

The MM 100 headset also caught the discerning eyes of jurors to win the iF Product Design Award 2010. The MM 100 combines stereo Bluetooth with a super-lightweight neckband design, making it the perfect headset for doing sports, walking the streets or simply relaxing in the park.

Sennheiser Communications also provides business professionals with comfortable headset solutions. The DW Office DECT headset showcases exquisite wireless design by providing ergonomic wearing comfort and Sennheiser sound quality. Whether using a desk phone or softphone, communication has never been more intuitive. The DW Office lightweight headset and cube-shaped base station not only adds a DECT headset to the company’s existing portfolio of ‘Comfort calls’ products, but is also a real work of art from a product design perspective.

Whether it is used for internet telephony or for enjoying music on the computer, the PC 31 headset from Sennheiser Communications offers excellent voice transmission and top-quality stereo sound. The quality of the sound is matched by the design. The classically elegant shape in a discreet black finish provides the headset with a luxurious appearance. The ergonomic design with an adjustable microphone boom guarantees maximum wearing comfort.

For those interested in top-quality design, all award winners will be on show from 2 March in the iF Online Exhibition at www.ifdesign.de. Those who prefer to see the award-winning products ‘live’ will have the opportunity to visit the iF exhibition at the Hannover Messe trade fair and exhibition centre from the beginning of March until August. This will also be the venue for the official award ceremony on 2 March, the opening day of the CeBIT fair.

About the iF Product Design Awards
The iF product design award is one of the world’s most highly regarded design competitions. The wide-ranging competition covers all areas of product design and has been organised annually since 1953 by the International Forum Design. The international jury evaluates the contributions on the basis of their design quality, finish, choice of materials, degree of innovation and functionality. The best products in a total of 16 categories are chosen and subsequently presented in a product design yearbook and an exhibition.
