Save Our Spectrum - Everyone has got to get involved!

The fight for frequencies and the resource of the frequency spectrum is in full swing. The mobile telephone company lobby is well established and also has the financial resources to push through their interests inch by inch.

However, a consortium of users of wireless technology wants to retain the spectrum for their own use. User associations like the VPLT (Professional Sound and Lighting Association), VDT (Association of Sound Engineers), VPRT (Association of Private Broadcasters and Telecommunication), EVVC (European Association of Event Centres), Deutscher Bühnenverein (German Stage Association), to name but a few, are involved and organised in the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies in the VDT). This represents the interests of wireless microphone users at a national level in Germany.

The above associations, which in some cases have an international remit, as well as manufacturers of the technology, will be setting up an international forum in the near future to consolidate interests on as broad a basis as possible and address policy to take the legitimate interests of users into account in a fitting manner.

What can individual users do to safeguard their interests? They can establish and maintain contact with their relevant association, reporting on their application and its importance so that this is given due consideration. This needs to be done quickly because the political decision-making process is already underway.
