Sennheiser Hits the Right Note with First Asian Ambassador
21.09.2007 Beijing

Fast-rising Chinese singer Jane Zhang constantly scales new heights in her music career. When it comes to delivering the right pitch she banks on the quality and reliability of trusted microphones from Sennheiser. Zhang, 22, has now been appointed as Sennheiser’s first music ambassador in Asia. In her new role, she will act as the spokesperson for Sennheiser’s microphones and lend her voice for promotional activities globally.

The Sichuan-native rose to popularity in 2005, when she was placed second runner-up in “Super Girl”, a national all-female singing competition. Zhang has since gone on to release two albums and has held concerts in Beijing and Tokyo.

“We were impressed with the clarity and quality of Jane’s vocal range as well as her growing popularity outside of China,” said Vince Tan, Sennheiser’s relations manager for Asia and Australia. “Her pursuit of musical excellence and versatility in singing in different languages make her a choice ambassador for Sennheiser.”

For Zhang’s one-night performance in Beijing in July, Sennheiser and Neumann presented the singer with a customised
SKM 5200 radio microphone outfitted with a Neumann KK 105 S capsule. The concert, held at the Beijing Exhibition Centre, had one of the most prominent VIP seating ever commanded by a mainland Chinese artiste.

The SKM 5200 continues the superior tradition of Sennheiser’s renowned SKM 5000 handheld transmitter, while its mechanics, electronics and user interface were redesigned for optimum quality in live events. “The Sennheiser SKM 5000 family is the microphone of choice for distinguished artistes all over the world, and Jane naturally was drawn to it,” said Executive Director of Huayi Brothers Music, the record label managing Zhang. Jin Shaogang Front of House Engineer for Zhang added “The Neumann KK 105 capsule has a warm quality and is a perfect match for Jane’s voice. At the Beijing concert, the SKM 5200 demonstrated that it was in a class of its own — that contributed to the confidence and vigour Jane exuberated on stage,”
