UK Manufacturer Unveils Innovative Microphone Suspension System In Frankfurt
Rycote, the industry-standard name in microphone suspension and windshield design, are launching InVision, their newest innovative range of handling noise-reducing microphone suspensions for compact microphones, on Stand H26 in Hall 8.0 at the Frankfurt Pro Light & Sound exhibition, from March 12th-15th, 2008.
For years, microphone suspensions have conformed to the same basic design, isolating microphones from handling noise by means of elasticated cradles. InVision is completely different; a new, patented design called the Lyre, comprising virtually unbreakable dual W-shaped clips of varying sizes, forms the heart of the new range. The InVision suspensions are designed for use in studio and installed sound applications, and are not for use within a windshield.
The Pro Light & Sound show, which takes place alongside the well-known Frankfurt Musikmesse, will see the debut of the first three sizes in the eight-strong InVision range. Known as INV-1, INV-2 and INV-3, these are designed for use with desk, stand-mounted or hanging microphones. The remaining five sizes in the range, INV- 4 to INV-8, are designed for use with boom-mounted mics, and will follow later in 2008. The different models use Lyres of varying sizes to fit microphones of different lengths and diameters from a variety of manufacturers. INV-1, for example, fits the AKG C747, Audio-Technica ATM350, Sennheiser ME36, and Schoeps CCM. INV-2 fits the Røde NT6 and Sennheiser MKH8000 series (remote). Completing the models being launched in Frankfurt, INV-3 fits the AKG C430, Behringer C2, DPA 4021 and Sennheiser MKH8000 series with MZX8000. A complete list of InVision-compatible microphones with their suitable INV model number can be found on-line, along with further details of the InVision range, at: www.rycote.com/products/invision.
“As with all our products, InVision was designed and made in the UK — the tooling is made locally and everything is assembled at our factory in Stroud,” notes Vivienne Dyer, Rycote’s Managing Director, commenting on the launch of the InVision range. “Microphone suspensions have all been essentially the same for years, so we’re delighted to be introducing some innovation back into the field.”
